An Excellent Update! Required Reading for anyone owning a guitar.

Dan Erlewine's latest edition of the Guitar Player Repair Guide is a worthy update. There are numerous additions and updates anyone familiar with the previous editions should check out. If you are new to the guitar, this book is the maintenance and repair guide than will help you maintain your investment, and even give you great tips on how to hod-rod, customize or fix your guitar.

The book is organized and logically arranged with Basic, DIY and Deep sections in each chapter. Electric, Acoustic and Bass guitars are all covered with detailed narrative and clear pictures.

Even if you are not up to jobs like fret work or truss rod adjustments, this book will prepare you to talk with your friendly neighborhood guitar repair guy about getting your guitar back to its former glory.

Very highly recommended. Make this your first purchase for your guitar dedicated bookshelf (doesn't everyone have those?).

Good for intermediate, bad for beginners

The book provides amazing detail on all aspects of maintaining and repairs guitars. If you have at least intermediate guitar experience its a great book for guitar upkeep. However for casual users and anyone who is hoping to get into this type of repair look elsewhere. It gives little explanation for those with a lack of basic knowledge and you'll spend more time looking up diagrams and terminology then reading the book.

The write is slightly biased towards certain guitars, which while popular and common, are not owned by everyone. Chapters that should be basic universal guitar help are used to spout particular brands and their specific upkeep which doesn't help those on off brand guitars. If you own a Fender or Gibson you'll be set but most other brands are left in the wayside

To summarize good for more experienced users, bad for those starting out. Good for anyone owning a guitar who wants upkeep help. Better for anyone owning a Fender or Gibson. Despite the negative comments if you have the basics down this book provides excellent tools for items as basic as cleaning your finish to repairing rotting tuners. A great book for a serious guitarist to own.

Loved It!

Of all the Noel Hynd books, this one is my absolute favorite. The characters are deep and the reader actually cares about them.
The California setting is familiar and welcoming. I love stories of old Hollywood and to mix that with present day mystery is a best seller from my point of view. Throughly enjoyed this book. It is the best in series by far. Wish I had read this one sooner.

A the terrific ghost story!

Noel Hynd has done it again. He can take an extreme horror idea, and make it so believable. This was a thriller that I had a hard time putting down. I would wake up in the wee hours to take my puppy to the bathroom, after which I would have to read some more until I fell asleep. This book was a combination of three mysteries, a police procedural, haunted house and cemetery ghost story, and love story.......and it all worked so beautifully. Although there were many scary and chilling parts in the story, the ending left me smiling and feeling good. While I frantically read needing to find out what happens, I hated reading that last page and closing the book. And I must say, that I will really miss Billy the ghost.

This was not the 2014 version, but the original 1995 hardback edition that I located on the Internet.

Good Story!!!

I really enjoy the works of this author! I enjoy books that are scary but not gross; there's no need for all the blood and guts. A good writer can convey the right effects without having to use the blood and gore aspect. Some writers' seem to think they need to use the blood and gore to elicit the response--from their audience --to their works they desire. In other words: I want to be scared...and, not grossed out! It should always be about the story, and not the added nonsense that destroys the whole desired outcome that the writer wants to achieve. Again: better to be scared than to be bludgeoned to death by so much blood and gore. We get enough of that on the evening news and T.V. shows. I'll be reading more of Hynd's work.

About the Author
Frédéric Jiguet is one of France's leading ornithologists and a conservation biologist at the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris. He is director of the Centre de Recherches sur la Biologie des Populations d'Oiseaux (CRBPO), and serves on the editorial board of France's premier bird-study journal, Ornithos. Aurélien Audevard has been studying birds for much of his life and has conducted several high-profile conservation studies for the Ligue pour la Protection des Oiseaux, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur (LPO PACA). His photographs have appeared in many of Europe's leading birding magazines, including Ornithos, L'Oiseaux, Birding World, and Dutch Birding.

However, to take advantage of low losses in silica fibers occurring around 1. 3 and 1. 55 ILm, the emphasis soon shifted toward long-wavelength semiconductor lasers. The material system of choice in this wavelength range has been the quaternary alloy InGaAsP. During the last five years or so, the intense development effort devoted to InGaAsP lasers has resulted in a technology mature enough that lightwave transmission systems using InGaAsP lasers are currently being deployed throughout the world. This book is intended to provide a comprehensive account of long-wave� length semiconductor lasers. Particular attention is paid to InGaAsP lasers, although we also consider semiconductor lasers operating at longer wave� lengths. The objective is to provide an up-to-date understanding of semicon� ductor lasers while incorporating recent research results that are not yet available in the book form. Although InGaAsP lasers are often used as an example, the basic concepts discussed in this text apply to all semiconductor lasers, irrespective of their wavelengths.

A comprehensive look at decision making, a good tool for managers.

The book is acomprehensive and in depth look at Decision Making. A topic no person who is in charge of choices bigger than "what should I wear" should ignore. Bazerman walk you through Biases,Heuristics, Awareness and Ethics as well as touching on the relevant issues of Negotiations and some common investment mistakes.
Once the tools are at one's fingertips, the hues around you begin to change.
P.S Relying on this review may be flawed: there is an inherant bias: Out of all the people who read this book only those who recognized its use would bother writing a review. This then should not be taken as a REPRESENTATIVE of all reader's views.

Useful guide on how to make sound, smart decisions

Have you ever wondered why some people make such stupid mistakes? Well, we are all prone, hard-wired and influenced to make astounding errors in judgment. Bazerman takes you on a journey into all the reasons why, full substantiated by science. All of it is fascinating. And, hopefully, once you are aware of what is really going on in our own brains we can be aware enough to mitigate those dangerous tendencies and become very clear about what we do.
