About the Author

Pierre Capretz is the creator of French in Action and a pioneer in video-based foreign-language instruction. He taught French at Yale University from 1956 to 2003 and was director of the Yale Language Laboratory from 1963 to 2000. Barry Lydgate is professor of French at Wellesley College.

Best French learning book!

Bonjour! This is a very good book and very useful when accompanied by its workbook and dvds.

I took French beginner's course at UC Berkeley Extension and they recommended this book. I was very happy with their recommendation.
There are tons of french teaching coursed and books out there in the market. Choosing the right book with a combination material is the right way to start. Do not get confused with so many authors and editions. Just stick to one and buy the accompanying dvds, workbook and voila! you are all set.

Self-learning is a bit difficult, I suggest joining a good institute and follow their process to learn. French is a difficult language to learn and to hone the skills esp. in speaking. The pronunciation is really what that matters when learning French. So go for it and Bonne chance!

Now THIS is a French home study worth every cent! With DVDs, a coordinating text and a workbook, learning just happens. The DVD content was developed by knowledgeable educators. Theres instructional classroom time. An entertaining video of French people going through daily life to reinforce what was taught in class. Other French media is also included to add cultural interest. I've tried several other means of learning the language. This one is superb!

Jesus will set you FREE!

My name is Elisa, I'm from Oregon and this is my tetimony.
I was introduced to the finished works of Jesus Christ 4 years ago while I was in the Washington psychiatric hospital. At that time, this book was not yet published but was worked on with *everything that's included in this book; 7 steps to freedom. All that's included here comes from the word of God. I was 19 at the time and for the last 15 Years or so, I had been living a true life of bondage, torture and misery. I had been diagnosed with social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, major depression with severe psychosis and borderline personality disorder. I stuggled with drugs and alcohol and addiction to self mutilation. I was heavily medicated with anti depressants, anti psychotics, hypnotics, and anti anxiety medications. A group of psychiatrists finally decided I had schizophrenia too. Because of my "mental illness", I Was unable to live a good life, could not finish school, work, live! I would cringe and dig my nails into myself to try to stop my self from hurting myself, but it only got worse with the years. Later I had lost all control. I frequently lost touch of reality, acted on rage and impulsively and had frequent suicide attempts. I have been hospitalized in every psych unit in Portland area. I had no hope, no future, and no life. I lived with post traumatic stress that would torture me in my sleep and while awake, I lived a life of absolute fear, stress, and anxiety.
Upon my what I like to call "treatment", I was guaranteed that Jesus would set me free. I never forgot that. That stuck to me, no one had ever said that to me. Pat and another pastor, along with the support of a small church worked hard with me. I was determined and desperate! I could no longer live like this. With coaching, I learned to develop a spiritual understanding. To me this was all new, but that was ok. As long as I wanted out, I was going to receive what was guaranteed. On a daily basis i worked on my problems. I gained trust, strength and power. I was beginning to get a hang on this. After resisting, resisting, resisting, I begun to overcome these oppressions. Sure I fell a few times and felt like giving up, but I was always encouraged to get back up and fight!! I continued fighting the good fight. 5 months later, I was set free!!! I was not coping with "my illnesses, I was freed!! The chains were not loosened, they were broken off!!! I was free! Thank you Jesus! My life changed so drastically, it took me a year to finally accept it, to get use to living free! It was just too new, too wonderful, so rich. Jesus has set me free

I was a drug addict/criminal for 28 years and I have used the step in this book to overcome the old self defeating behaviors. This book has given me the understanding on how to fight and walk in freedom and to help others overcome. The steps in this book have given me something I never thought I would ever have....LIFE. I highly recommend it. GREAT BOOK.

This book was a complete waste of money. For a student it is practically useless. The examples are few and far between and not completely done. The author skips from the first step to the last..without informing the student of the process. The author also assumes that the reader is a phenom when it comes to linear algebra. I learned absolutely nothing from this book !

Technical book in Mexico

The book arrives at excellent conditions. The pages are yellow due to the time of storage. The arrival time was too much but it is normal due to the postal service at Mexico. I think that it is a very good service to get a technical book at Mexico.

I will give this transaction 5 stars because the textbook was in great shape at a great price; however, shipping was slow as molasses. Attempts to reach the seller were unsuccessful until I contacted Amazon. Once I contacted Amazon to raise hell, the seller responded that day.
