About the Author
Dr. Ridel possesses an educational and business background that spans over three decades. He was schooled in the social sciences (sociology, psychology) and received specialized training in conflict sociology and behavioral psychology. Robert’s educational background also includes solid exposure to the humanities, including studies in culture, ethics, philosophy, and (his passion) critical thinking. He earned his degrees, including his Ph.D., through the University of California system. Dr. Ridel is currently the Dean of Retention at the University of Phoenix – which was his occupational home for over 10 years as Academic Dean, Area Chair, and Lead Faculty. He also served as Lecturer and Department Chair at various universities across the United States and overseas in Europe and Asia. In addition, Robert was associated with the National Institutes of Health (Research Fellow – Laboratory of Brain Evolution and Behavior) and the United Nations (Field Observer – Africa). He also founded a business management and career consulting firm that worked with companies to become more profitable, as well as with professionals to manage and advance in their careers. Although he has occupied various positions in his professional life, Dr. Ridel’s primary interests continue to be focused on the field of educational administration and helping students proceed through their programs of study and develop within their chosen career paths.

Excellent Read!

Seldom do I find a book that I want to read cover to cover let alone a textbook. "Critical Thinking in Everyday Life" was stimulating to read and expanded the way I view the outside world and how I process information. I felt as though the author did an excellent job connecting with his readers by offering a variety of real life examples that were relatable.

This textbook belongs in a classroom with college students or professional adults who want to transform the way they think. By the end of the book, my problem-solving skills were sharper, and I felt empowered and more confident to ask questions.

I found this textbook to be a fundamental building block in helping me become a better critical thinker.

I am a student at Phoenix University and searched all over the internet and didn't find this the first time on Amazon. The value of this book was great and has helped me with my lessons. I would definitely recommend this book.

A MUST READ

I am truthfully in awe of this book. It is one of my text books for University of Phoenix, but don't let that fool you. Dr. Ridel has a way with writing so that it is both informative and entertaining at the same time. It is a wonderful learning tool. I will recommend this to friends and family alike. I feel that other schools and teachers need to be made aware of this tool and be able to utilize it for both kids and adults. A MUST READ FOR ANYONE! I am contemplating purchasing for my own collection after this class is finished.

Very informative and thought provoking

SOmeone recommended this to me, so I found it half price somewhere and picked it up. What a treasure! Each reading offered me so much information and gave me pause to really think. I think it is a great book, and next year plan to go through it with my kids at Christmas. Several people popped in my mind that might benefit from this book. It doesn't preach, it teaches

So eloquent

I husband suggested I read this book after he found it while living overseas on military duty in the Sinai Peninsula. While both Christians, we had fallen away from a focus on faith until recently. This book was so nice to read during this wonderful season of celebration. I felt it was so eloquently written and really captured my attention during each chapter. I am so glad I read it this year and I would have paid more for it. Thank you to this author for his wonderful gift of writing about the nativity.

Inspiring

Why the Nativity, by David Jeremiah, is an inspirational book answering several questions surrounding the nativity of Christ. David is a good theologian and a great pastor, and his book is exactly what you would expect. This is not supposed to be a scholarly work, it does not have a lot of depth historically, but David still does a good job, and it always interesting. It was enjoyable to read. I have a few minor disagreements, such as the his comment the our image of angels with wings and white robes was a product of painters in the middle ages, but Icons for centuries proceeding the middle ages depicted winged angels,and we know from scripture the ones in the empty tomb wore white robes. Still, overall, this is a good, short, inspiring book to read during the Christmas holidays.

Unconventional examples and original problems are used to engage even seasoned researchers in exploring a mathematical methodology with which they can tackle virtually any new problem involving light. An extensive bibliography makes connections with mathematical techniques and subject areas which can extend the benefit readers gain from each section.

This revised edition includes over 40 new problems (for a total of 110 original problems with an instructor's solution manual), as well as completely new sections on quantum interference, Fano resonance, optical magnetism, quantum computation, laser cooling of solids, and irreducible representation of magnetic interactions. Literature references to current ultrafast science, nonlinear optics, x-ray and high-field physics topics have doubled at the end of chapters 5, 6, and 7; the subject index has also been significantly expanded.

Comprehensive and brief, but the editing needs some work

This book is slender (180 small pages of text, with illustrations) but it manages to present up-to-date research on Caribbean archaeology comprehensively. The "pluralist" approach is interesting and consistent, and the descriptions of ecological adaptation are good. There is an invitation to a more radical approach to the Ta�nos (some paragraphs -- pages 142, 144, and 174, for instance -- do come out and say that the tag "Ta�nos" may be mistakenly merging different cultures under a false identity). However, the invitation is curiously tempered by several pages on Ta�no society and repeated references to the Ta�no. Something similar happens with the Island Caribs (page 148). On a side note, the book is full of typos and other mistakes (wrong references to figures, the fifth of seven chapters starts by saying it is the "final" chapter). I counted more than 15 of such errata, and for such a small book, and published by the excellent CUP, it came as a surprise.

Long awaited by both archaeologists and ethnohistorians, locals as well as non locals. The work does justice to many interpretations long held back in the dark by traditionalists and conservatives. The region has always managed to resist single minded interpretations of its human experience and Wilson's updates and insights will be well received.

I usually have my doubts about books, especially English books. Usually spewing out the same redundant stuff we've been taught since High School. But this one, man, what great book. They should have you dive into this stuff sooner than upper level classes, thoroughly enjoyed this.

Good, but a little pointless

Look, I bought this for class, so take my review with a a gain of salt. It is definitely cheaper than my school's book store and Amazon's rate on shipping kept it still cheaper, but it's just a useless book. Almost every "lesson" it teaches is, or should be, common sense. I mean, honestly, the book tells you not to plagiarise, make sure your figures are readable, and to be polite in company emails. I don't really think you need a book to tell you that, do you? Anyway, it ships well, arrives on time, and is of decent quality in terms of binding, paper, etc. Your not getting ripped off for materials, just maybe actual content is lacking.
