Her Little Secret

In "Confessions," best friends Nikki Truth and Trinette Montgomery's lives are not exactly ideal. Nikki married her high school sweetheart Donovan. Years into their marriage, their happily ever after is now a thing of the past. It's during Donovan's deployment to Iraq that Nikki faces the harsh reality that her marriage is over and that it's time to move on. Enter Kenyon Monroe, Mr. Tall, Dark and Handsome.

Trinette is all about Trinette. Trinette is living the lavish life at the expense of others. She has a good, kind, loving husband that takes care of her, but that doesn't stop her from doing her own thing with other men while hubby is away.

I won't go beyond that and spoil the story. Just know that it's worth it to read this engaging novel laced with drama to find out what happens in the lives of Nikki and Trinette. Author Sasha managed to create characters that are likeable, volatile and witty. Told in alternating chapters, the emotions of the characters infuse and drive the story.

Being from St. Louis, I had slight issues with some incorrect names (Webster Grove and St. Louis Bread Factory). Not sure if the author did it intentionally or if it was a mistake, but it was noted by this reader. Even so, it wasn't enough to distract from the strength of the read.

"Confessions" is amusing and delightful. Easily recommendable.

Honesty is the Best Policy

Is it possible to save a marriage if each spouse is completely honest with one another?
This debut novel by Sasha Campbell, Confessions, follows the marriages of two lifelong friends. Both of their marriages are in a downward spiral and quickly falling out of control. Nikki is married to Donovan, who is a soldier recently deployed. Her best friend, Trinette, is married to Leon who is a CFO that lives in a different city than his wife.

Nikki is a radio talk show host who gives relationship advice to her listeners. It is quite ironic that Nikki gives advice even though her personal life is in shambles. Under the advisement of Trinette, she decides to date while her husband is away. Trinette, on the other hand, lives the "single" life except when her husband is in town on the occasional weekend.

This book is a page-turner because you want to know what will happen when Donavon comes home. Will Trinette's double life finally catch up with her? Will confessions be made? Will the four of them be honest with their spouses, but more importantly with themselves about their own behavior?
I recommend this book to everyone, especially those that are married who think their secrets will never be exposed.

Why do we make assumptions? Why are we not satisfied with what we have until it's too late?
Nikki Truth, a bookstore owner/radio talk show host dishing out her brand of advice to callers on her show "Truth Hurts!" whose husband has been deployed to Iraq is having marital problems, receives a letter from her husband calling it quits. Nikki makes up her mind to take some of the advice she gives out, and becomes involved with someone else. Does she really find out if she can handle the truth when her assumptions makes an ass of her or when she realizes one of her on air callers took her advice to heart?

Trinette Montgomery, a bonafide shopaholic, always chasing the almighty dollar no matter what sponsor she has to use to get it; but the problem is she's married! Trinette feels it's time for her to get hers, sacrificing to help her husband rise to the top in his career that takes him from St. Louis to Richmond and a CFO position, but Trinette wants to stay put to work on her education and toward a supervisor position at her own job. But when Trinette's dirt comes back to greet her will she learn about real love and forgiveness, or will her greed be the cause of her own destruction?

Nikki and Trinette best friends from forever, both harbor hurts,insecurities,and tragedies. Will their bond be able to handle their personal truths?

I really enjoyed this book, it was crazy, funny, provocative, and serious. This being the author's freshman novel, Sasha Campbell did a wonderful job with her characters and it kept you interested and guessing.
The story takes place in St. Louis, MO. my hometown, and I was easily able to visualize and identify the places mentioned.

I definitely recommend this book, we can all learn a lesson from it, and realize that sometimes the truth does hurt, but it also can set you free!

I'm not quite believing this...

I thought to myself, "This might be the most preposterous reason to write a book that I have ever encountered." And then I encountered the chapter on Tab.

The author is CLEARLY a scholar of the fizzy brown stuff, and deserves a good bit more attention than he's likely to get from this book alone. So here's hoping that a sequel is in the works!

Seriously, this is NOTHING to take seriously. A great little fun romp. Highly recommended!

Non-Addicts Need not Apply!

An autobiographical, nostalgic tribute to family, fun, and Coke addiction. Do you remember collecting coke bottles, carelessly tossed away, for the deposit money? I do. This book will take you back to the old days. If you don't know or remember those days, you'll get the idea after the first chapter of the book. Unless you are a Mormon, or a Seventh Day Adventist (all due respect) you're addicted to something...coffee, Coke, wine or sports, Game of Thrones or Homeland. You'll relate to the downright silly, goofball and fully authentic book. Read the book; give it as a gift. It's four hours of your life "you'll never get back", but it sure beats reruns of Gilligan's Island!

Witty, Quirky and Hilarious

A fun, easy to read book. I laughed often at the continuous and ridiculous antics this addict would do to get a Coke, and the pure pleasure experienced when indulging in that “carbonated concoction”. I came across addicts of all sorts while reading this book (coffee, coke, chocolates, and a few unmentionables) and each of them had similar stories about what they had done, or were willing to do, to get the fix of their choice. A great read for any addict or their enabler.

About the Author

Hongji Yang is Leader of SERG at the Software Technology Research Laboratory at De Montfort University, UK. He serves in the Department of Computer Technology. His research interests include software engineering and distributed computing. He teaches Software Architecture and Software Evolution. He served as a programme co-chair at IEEE International Conference on Software Maintenance 1999 and as programme chair at IEEE Computer Software and Application Conference 2002.

Xiaodong Liu received his PhD in Computer Science from De Montfort University, UK. He is a reader and the director of Centre for Information & Software Systems, in the School of Computing, Edinburgh Napier University, UK. As an active researcher, his current research focuses on Context-aware adaptive services, service evolution, mobile clouds, pervasive computing, software reuse, and component-based software engineering. Dr. Liu has led 6 externally funded projects, and published over 50 papers in established international journals and conferences and 2 book chapters. He is the inventor of 1 patent registered in UK, USA and at International Level. He has been the chair, co-chair or PC member of a number of IEEE and IASTED international conferences. He is the editorial board member of 3 international journals and editor of 2 research books. He is a member of IEEE Computer Society and British Computer Society.

Excellent clinical resource and training text

Given the current mental health care emphasis on providing clients with brief evidence-based interventions this edited book is an excellent resource for clinicians and those providing clinical training. Most other books that attempt to describe and illustrate brief treatments focus solely on cognitive-behavioral therapies. Although this book does include chapters on cognitive therapy & behavior therapy, this book also includes chapters on motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, interpersonal psychotherapy, time-limited dynamic psychotherapy, brief couples therapy, the role of common factors in therapy, pharmacotherapy, and practice from a multicultural perspective. Thus, this book makes an excellent text for systems of psychotherapy, clinical skills, and practicum/internship courses. Each chapter is written by an expert in the field and includes a video of that expert demonstrating the approach. It is an excellent read that clearly demonstrates each approach!

Great for practicing therapists

Because so many insurance companies limit the amount of visits for clients, brief psychotherapies appear to be becoming the norm. This book is really good, but it should really not be used by anyone who is not properly trained in therapy. For those who are, this book offers some terrific insight and techniques.

About the Author
Craig has been involved in sports since he was six years old. He competed in soccer, taekwondo, and football. Craig received his black belt by age 12 and soon became an accomplished athlete in three different sports. Craig went to college to earn a Bachelors Degree in Sports Medicine, a Masters Degree in Exercise Physiology, a second Masters degree in Biomechanics, and is presently working on a Ph.D in Biomechanics. Craig is a Nationally Certified Athletic Trainer by the National Athletic Trainers Association and a Nationally Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. For the past few years he has been involved in both human and veterinary (i.e. canine, equine, and bovine athletes) sports medicine and athletic performance research. He is also the CEO and founder of athleteproject.com.

Are you the target audience?

This book is targeted at parents of late teenagers with serious aspirations of playing sports at college or professional level. It was of little relevance to a parent trying to ensure that his 11 year old son has a safe, fun or rewarding experience playing hockey, soccer, basketball or lacrosse. I did not understand this from the supporting information, cover etc.

This one is the gold standard, folks

Throughout my 13 years as a graduate career advisor, this comprehensive book has been a staple--I recommend it all the time. Among the updates in the 5th edition are new examples of job search materials from real, successful job candidates across disciplines—if you’re like me, seeing actual examples is crucial. Guidance on one’s online presence (the good, the bad, the ugly) is new, along with added narratives by dual-career couples and the joys and complications of being a parent while on the job market. Finally, given that academic jobs are not the only career options for a PhD, the authors have included an excellent introduction to exploring careers outside the tenure track. My favorite part of that chapter is the chart of actual jobs held by PhDs in a variety of disciplines (e.g., the chemist who is a patent agent, the English PhD who is a director of special programs for a museum). The value added to this new edition is well worth the investment. If you are going on the academic job market this fall, but want to peek into the job market outside, this is THE single book you need, no matter your discipline.

This book was very helpful. I would recommend any students/postdocs who are interested in an academic career to have a quick read of this book, as soon as you are thinking of this idea. The book will give you a general idea what you need to prepare for the job market or what you would expect while on the job market. This book is written for general purpose, suitable for all majors, various types academic positions (tenure-track, lecturer, postdoc ets), different level of schools. It covers many details and gives some good examples to illustrate the reality.

Wonderful!

I read Kimberly Cooper's first book, The Last Summer, and that book is definitely a must read, by the way! The 35th Year has a unique concept and a wonderful story line. The author has a vivid imagination and does a wonderful bringing her characters to life.

I read this book in just under 2 days! I could not put it down. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a romance novel with the Harlequin style of writing. I can't wait for the sequel!

Gado claims his massive study approaches Bergman as a literary filmmaker, one with recurring characters, themes, and preoccupations. Hardly an original notion, and fortunately, one Gado doesn't dwell on too long. This is a readable, exceptionally thorough analysis of Bergman's output, breaking little new ground but covering the old territory with style and grace. This is THE Bergman book

My jaw drops at the Library Journal review supplied by Amazon of Frank Gado's magnificant Bergman book, but I note it appears to be a very early review. I had been a Bergman fan for years when Gado's book came out and when it did it was like lightning bolt. This is not just some pamphlet to add to your Bergman collection once you've read all the rest. This is the SEMINAL study of Bergman; no one can write about the filmaker in the future without knowing this book. It was the first to get past the religious mumbo-jumbo and the literary high mindedness to discover just what Bergman is actually saying. Meticulously researched and beautifully written, it is, above all, the most compelling psychological study of the director ever attempted. His discussion of "Persona," my own personal favorite Bergman film and admittedly a difficult nut to crack, quite simply renders useless virtually every other critique of the film that had been written previously, and that includes essays by Susan Sontag and a host of others with similarly sharp minds. These pages are filled with insight after insight. The only possible complaint I have is that Gado seems uninterested in the "filmic" quality of Bergman's work. There's little discussion of how the films look and feel via cinematography, framing, sound, lighting, editing, what have you. That's fine. If he hadn't left that for others there'd be little left for anyone to write about.

Many of the authors are personal friends and colleagues, but some were strangers whose work I admired. They provided photos, updated biographies and were patient as other work delayed completion of the Bonfire Collection.

Around the globe our tribe is at work. We can be identified by our passion for Process Design (even if we do not always call it that). We are the "how" people, the ones who focus on how to

• Identify, discuss and decide the issues we care about
• Include those affected by decisions
• Encourage the participation of those who historically have been excluded from the conversation
• Make the best use of the group�s time
• Promote mutual understanding
• Make the process transparent
• Awaken collective intelligence
• Evaluate the effectiveness of the process.

In the hands of a competent facilitator, a well-designed process sets the stage and supports the group as it explores options, navigates conflict and reaches decisions. While good process can
be almost invisible, we can all feel the difference between a helpful process and one that causes more problems than it solves. At its best, process is the "secret ingredient" for transforming reality, one meeting at a time.

Why "Bonfire"?
The name was chosen toevoke the primal power of fire to attract us, to draw us together. A bonfire isa gathering place where we can share warmth, tell stories and learn from oneanother.

In "Sitting in the Fire: Large Group Transformation Using Conflict andDiversity" Arnold Mindell calls fire "the price of liberty". Speaking tothose who are seeking a way out of the oppression and violence thatcharacterizes much of human interaction, he says:
"Creatingfreedom, community and viable relationships has its price. It costs time andcourage to learn how to sit in the fire of diversity. It means staying centeredin the heat of trouble. And it demands that we learn about small and largeorganizations, open city forums, and tense street scenes. If you step intoleadership or facilitatorship without this learning, you may spend your timerecapitulating the blunders of history."

Like all the work of theInternational Institute for Facilitation and Change, Bonfire is part of our response to the exigencies of the presenttime. It is an invitation to gather, to question, and to learn together inorder to stop repeating the mistakes of the past and to find a better way touse fire.
