About the Author
Priscille Dando is a library information services educational specialist supporting the secondary library programs of Fairfax County Public Schools, Virginia. Her 23-year career as a teacher and librarian has focused on best practices for instruction and advocacy for teens. She is a National Board Certified Teacher in Library Media and was named Teacher of the Year at Robert E. Lee High School in 2003. A member of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) Board of Directors, she also serves on several advisory boards, including the National Forum on Teens and Libraries hosted by YALSA and supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

This is an excellent introduction to gathering and using statistics and other information to support your library's efforts, whether they are to garner more financial support or are in support of other initiatives. Although not obvious from the title, this book is aimed primarily at school and public librarians. All of the examples that Dando uses to illustrate her points are from school or public libraries. That being said, however, the principles that she describes for gathering, using, and presenting statistics would be applicable in any sort of library.

Say it with Data has six chapters. Topics include: determining need, message, and audience; effective communication; working with statistics; survey techniques; focus group methodology; and how to best present the data that you gather. There are also a number of appendices with checklists for surveys or focus groups, and examples of surveys for specific audiences, such as public library patrons, students, or teachers. The book is well-written and includes both a bibliography and an index.

Even though the book is geared towards public and school libraries, it would also be useful for department heads in larger libraries. I could envision its use in cataloging, acquisitions, systems or other operational departments as they perform assessment and look for ways to effectively present the results. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in assessment and looking for ways to present the results in a meaningful way to their stakeholders, whether they are library administration or others.

About the Author
Jerry H. Bentley is professor of history at the University of Hawai`i and editor of the Journal of World History. His research on the religious, moral, and political writings of Renaissance humanists led to the publication of Humanists and Holy Writ: New Testament Scholarship in the Renaissance (Princeton, 1983) and Politics and Culture in Renaissance Naples (Princeton, 1987). More recently, his research has concentrated on global history and particularly on processes of cross-cultural interaction. His book Old World Encounters: Cross-Cultural Contacts and Exchanges in Pre-Modern Times (New York, 1993) examines processes of cultural exchange and religious conversion before the modern era, and his pamphlet Shapes of World History in Twentieth-Century Scholarship (Washington, D.C., 1996) discusses the historiography of world history. His current interests include processes of cross-cultural interaction and cultural exchanges in modern times.

Herbert F. Ziegler is an associate professor of history at the University of Hawai'i. He has taught courses on world history for the last 19 years and is currently the director of the world history program at the University of Hawai'i. For several years, he also served as the book review editor of the 'Journal of World History'. His interest in twentieth-century European social and political history led to the publication of 'Nazi Germany's New Aristocracy (1990)'. He is at present working on a study that explores uncharted aspects of German society, especially the cultural manifestations of humor and satire in the Nazi era. His other current research project focuses on the application of complexity theory to a comparative study of societies and their internal dynamics.

The First Disease is one of the most neglected and unmanaged health conditions in spite of the fact that it is a worldwide malady, a pandemic which is preventable and can be controlled effectively and safely. It affects nearly everyone at some point, or during most of their lifetime, and yet it is one of the most overlooked aspects of public health. The good news is that the First Disease can be effectively beaten and defeated to prevent premature aging, to reduce inflammation, and to strengthen the immune system to prevent most cancers and other chronic and degenerative diseases. The evidence from epigenetic studies tells us that preventive intervention can be achieved to the extent that development of many illnesses among people who may even have genetic tendencies for them can be stopped. The First Disease and its many aftermaths killed my beloved husband, Henry. So, passionately and dutifully, I am pursuing my mission in life and have written this book for our general population to impart knowledge about this least talked about disorder to support prevention or undoing of this surreptitious and not widely known disease. I wrote this book because our people are our greatest national asset! I wrote this book because generally, doctors do not talk to our people about the First Disease and its impact on the course of infectious, chronic, degenerative diseases. Throughout the book, my objective is not to give any medical or clinical advice, but to present and to reinforce the facts about the First Disease, its significance and its consequences when not prevented or managed effectively. Accordingly, “Kill the First Disease” is a holistic approach to prevention or undoing of the First Disease without unnecessary and perfunctory use of pharmaceutical drugs and chemicals, or medical interventions. I can see, after reading her book, that Simin Wong had written it to awake our consciousness on how to be alert just when the first signs of "The First Disease" starts, secretly poisoning our whole body. I feel grateful​ to Simin Won while reading and each chapter, written for the general public as a self-help awareness. It gave me "tools" to become more aware in the prevention of severe illness in the future.
I highly recommend this book written with generosity, wisdom and professional background.

Dr. Wong's book should start a revolution. The key to dramatically better health is prevention - prevention of the first disease. She lays out the signs and symptoms and provides a guide for how to change your life to live longer and much healthier. She also blends rigorously researched medical findings with an emotional personal story that drives her conviction that we have to make serious changes in our diet and lifestyle. She targets the biggest culprit of today's diseases - sugar. I'm sure that if people read and follow this book they will feel better, live better, and enjoy life more. It is not easy to make the changes in lifestyle she recommends but I know she is right on target and I'm going to do the best I can to follow her prescription. Enjoy, learn and most importantly make the changes Dr. Wong recommends!

Since the very first story, you have been at the top of my must read list. Finding your great clean writing set my heart on fire. Being a senior citizen, I truly thank you!

You are a genius at story telling, with each new story's delivery being so much better than the last story. I have also enjoyed some of you other series'.

I anxiously await my favorite Cozy Series' next Darcy Sweet Cozy Mystery. I have asked God, to allow you the ability and desire to write many more Cozies for your endearing senior fans.

An end/ a beginning

When is it time to let go? How can you let go? Maybe it is when a change is coming and you look back and realize that time moves on and you need to be prepared. Not Darcy! She would love to understand why her Millie or even Smudge can never tell her what she needs to know in her dreams by just telling her. Mysteries and why let you family think you died in your sleep? Protection? You bet. Love. All of it.
Great aunt Millie was and is a great part of Darcy's life and she is devastated when she learns Millie was murdered. How could she let her think differently. Love would be the answer plus protecting her from the true killer. Who did it? You will need to read it to find out and to find out who are truly the ones to trust. Feelings get hurt and love is destroyed but true friendship stands the test of time.
Also, Jon has finally decided he wants a family. Music to Darcy's ears. Will it happen? If not there is still Darcy's niece will still need her to help her with her gifts.

Aunt Millie never leaves Darcy's side

I have read all the Darcy Sweet books, the development of the characters, seeing Darcy fall in love, marry and honeymoon. This book does bring something to full circle.

It hard to write a review because you know that many may not have read the story yet, but you will be surprised, you will laugh with some of the antics of Smudge, you could only wish you could have a cat like that. There are some additional story lines that still need explaining, and hope that we will soon see more stories to come.

Not worth buying free

There seems to be problems with transcribing some parts of books such as this. Throughout, the major turning points of the stories, which are quotes from either letters or newspaper articles, are completely missing. I am guessing that the missing sections appear in italics or some variant form.
This not the only book in which I have seen this -- makes the entire thing useless. The whole development of the story involves newspaper ads -- all of which are missing.

"The Stolen White Elephant" is a broad farce mocking the self-proclaimed omniscience of many fictional detectives, told entirely in the form of a series of ridiculous telegraphs. Revolving around the theft of a literal white elephant, the gift of the King of Siam, this manifestly absurd story is nevertheless modeled after the real life efforts of a blundering New York Police Department to recover the corpse of one Alexander T. Stewart, stolen from his family vault in 1878.

For much of this time, the Squadron was based in Germany at the front line of the Cold War, but it also participated in the Gulf War in 1991, in operations over Iraq from 1991-2009, in the Kosovo conflict in 2000 and latterly during the war in Afghanistan, firstly with the Tornado GR4 and then with the Shadow R1. Today the Squadron operates in great secrecy in an Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance role.�

Having had access to log-books, contemporary diaries, maps and photographs, as well as oral and written accounts from a large number of ex-Squadron members, the author has been able to produce as complete an account as is presently possible of the operational history of 14 Squadron in the second half of the twentieth century and the opening years of the twenty-first.

About the Author
The elder son of an army officer, Michael Napier joined the RAF in 1978 and served with 14 Squadron as a Tornado pilot in the late 1980s and again in the early 1990s. These two tours engendered a deep interest in 14 Squadron's distinguished history. He was appointed as Honorary Secretary of the 14 Squadron Association in 2003 and since then has carried out extensive research into the Squadron's heritage. He is the author of Winged Crusaders: 14 Squadron RFC and RAF 1915-1945. Now an airline captain, he lives in the Cotswolds with his wife and two children.
