Describes just what you need to know

This book is perfect for anyone who wants to understand the state of robotics in disaster response. It has key insights for everything from how to interact with emergency-management professionals (and how not to) to the gaps between current practice and need. It is organized by robot type (land, air, water) and has specific examples of failure modes as well as capabilities for each. It also describes the best-practices for doing operations in the field and includes many practical tips for safely operating robots in the field.

Dr. Murphy has been a long time participant and enthusiastic supporter of using robots to assist in disaster recovery. "Disaster Robotics" is an excellent summary of the challenges and state-of-the-art in this exceeding difficult application of robotics.
