The pieces within the books were a nice starting ground for most classical students

WARNING! The description is a lie!
NEVER BUY ANY OF THESE!!!!!
This USED to be a series of books I always used with my violin and viola students. But now MEL BAY has decided to cut corners.
It is no longer published as a violin part with a separate piano accompaniment. It's all bound together in one book, and therefore unusable.
How on earth do they expect two people perform out of the same book on different pages at the same time?
True, they do offer a pdf for you to download, but that ends up just being a bundle of useless single sheets of paper. So in effect they sell you a USELESS bound copy and offer you a "free" download of a few dozen equally USELESS single copies.
NEVER BUY ANY OF THESE!!!!! You'll just be throwing your money away.
The pieces within the books were a nice starting ground for most classical students, and it was nice to have them all compiled in a single source. But since all the works in all the books are in public domain you may as well just download them for free off the internet (There are any number of legal sources online). A little more time consuming, but since Mel Bay has decided to render these books worthless by saving the cost of 3 staples, you might as well. It has many of the same pieces with a legitimate, separate piano part included.
Hopefully in the future Mel Bay will get a few actual musicians on their staff who can explain why this was such a stupid move. If that happens I'll be glad to recommend them again.
But until then...

Solo Pieces for the Beginning violinist

My students really enjoy playing from this book, and it gives ample opportunity to address the details, what teachers call "reading around the notes". This was a good purchase for me.
