Did not meet my expectations

I didn't find this book super helpful. It's definitely one of those books where the margins on every page are larger than necessary to make it appear as if there is more content and substance than there is. This book was a disappointment, but it wasn't a terrible book. The information was too basic and didn't offer the kind of plan of action I was expecting.

Excellent Guide for Helping Your Child Navigate the Social World

Excellent book for any parent who wants to help their children develop good, solid social skills. Not only does this help with building self-confidence, but also helping you guide your children to not only being a better friend, but also developing strong friendships, regardless of whether your child is shy or gregarious. Since reading this book and better equipping myself to help my child, I have seen an enormous growth in maturity, better social interaction with other children, adults, authority figures, etc. I have also seen an incredible improvement in my child's self-confidence. The book has excellent summary information which I copied and taped to the bathroom mirror to help my child acquire this important set of skills - a set of skills which will serve anyone well.

Really loving a child means sometimes you have to do some extra work

Some children perhaps from adhd or other reasons do not seem to notice and/or learn from the subtle and sometimes not so subtle social cues given by others in daily life. If this continues it can often lead to a lonely life without many friendships.
If there's a special child you know and love with difficulties like this, it can be very heartbreaking to see. You know something's wrong but you often don't know the root of the problem and even if you did you can't just tell them what to do and expect lasting results. For me it was very unclear as to what else if anything I might be able to do to help.
Reading this book gave me a new and useful way to look at social skills in children, but it was easy to read and follow. It seems an ideal resource for a parent or grandparent who is willing to roll up their sleeves, learn some new things, and at times work with the child in a variety of interesting, specific, and potentially fun activities.
The lessons start covering more basic social skills and then goes progressively to more complex social skills. It can really help a person clarify the specific areas of difficultie(s) and guide you with clear direction on what you can to do together with the child to make progress in strengthening those weak areas.
