Well Written With A Despicable Ending

Heather had a bad breakup with her boyfriend. She passed the bar exam and she wanted to shoot off some steam, Heather calls and old college chum, Rebecca and they go out to celebrate. Without Heather's knowledge, Rebecca sets her up to be screened by a master named Mark. Heather is slowly seduced into the BDSM lifestyle, which changes her whole outlook on life. She comes to find out that some of the people she works with our also embroiled in this fascinating lifestyle.
Mark takes over her life making decisions for her own benefit. Mark makes her his slave and pretends that everything he's doing is for her. Heather is so mesmerized by Mark and the way he makes her feel that she doesn't see the whole picture of his manipulations. Mark tells Heather nothing about his own life, only commanding that she trust him. He takes her to see an isolated community called Rock Creek that requires a special recommendation for membership. Mark tells her that he's a member of this Rock Creek and that he was working towards obtaining her membership.
Heather finds out that her boss is also a part of this isolated BDSM community and the law firm she works for handles Rock Creek's legal affairs. Her boss offers her a new position that will double her salary and she would be handling the legal affairs for the community. Mark already knows about the offer and encourages her to take the job, which will cement her membership in the community.
At the end of the story, Heather accepts the new position and Mark shows her the community and new home. She signs a bunch of legal contracts that tie her to Rock Creek without reading them, because Mark asks her to trust him. She tours the community; she seems to be less than thrilled about many things that take place at Rock Creek. When she finds out that Mark had some of her things brought there from her apartment without her knowledge, she becomes a little peeved, especially when he informs her that she doesn't need anything else. Mark assures her that she'll get used to it, but he had one more thing to show her that he's certain that she won't like at first.
Mark takes her into a room to meet his wife, her new mistress, who turns out to be her good friend Rebecca. Heather feels utterly betrayed and realizes that everything was a set up from the beginning to get her into the BDSM lifestyle and Rock Creek community. She just sort of gives up and surrenders as if she has no other choice.
I enjoyed the book up until I found out the Heather was manipulated and used by her friend, co-workers, boss, and her master. The one thing I enjoy about BDSM books is the honesty and respect the sub and master have for each other. It's the absolute trust in the relationship that makes the relationship so special. Heather trusted the wrong people and they betrayed her for their own benefit. The book was well written, but I hated how the story ended and have no interest in reading the rest of the series about Rock Creek.

Not believable

I had a very hard time believing the reactions to all of this from Heather. I don't believe that someone with her intelligence and personality type would blindly accept so much, especially being an attorney (not reading the contract first - GEEZ). I lost respect for her for not walking away when it was clearly easy to see that Mark, a major jerk, did nothing for her but took so much... and she let him. The writing is not bad other than the strangeness of all of the acceptance of this, on her part and some of the others. I can't see her putting up with so many friends turning on her either. I've read some books from other authors that involved BDSM and they at least had believable characters with believable reactions. This was just too much and just not good enough for me. The author needs to learn how to build better characters who are more true to their personality types.

Not Believable

I like BDSM stories, but this one just didn't do it for me.
Heather's reactions, especially in the last two major scenes were just not believable at all. I never really liked Mark and ended up disliking the rest of the characters who plotted "against" Heather.
I kept hoping to see her have any backbone, but she just took whatever was thrown at her.
I almost gave it two stars as the idea of Rock Creek was interesting, but the rest didn't do it for me.
EDIT: I changed my review up to two stars after thinking about it overnight. I wrote it right after finishing the book. I changed it because although I didn't like what most of what the characters were doing, it is well written.
Unusually for me, I kept reading a chapter or two before stopping. But I kept picking it up again hoping that the main character would stand up for herself.
